How It Started
I started learning real estate in 1986, from my high school accounting teacher, who was also a working real estate agent. What began as a class turned into two years working alongside him as his assistant, right up until he left teaching to do real estate full time. That was my introduction to the business, and it stuck with me.
Along the way, I partnered with a custom home builder friend of mine — based in Bethesda, Chevy Chase, and Potomac — to start a backup generator business. It grew quickly, and became one of the top backup power companies in the area, working with Fortune 500 executives, government officials, and many homeowners throughout Potomac, Bethesda, Chevy Chase, and around the DC metro. We even installed the backup power system for the Washington Commanders when Coach Joe Gibbs returned — they'd lost power, and Coach couldn't watch film at 1 a.m.
As power outages became less of a business driver, two realtors I'd come to know well as clients and referral partners — Marc Fleisher and Mark McFadden — encouraged me to come back to real estate full time. What they valued, in their words, was an “absolute dedication to the client, to execute as promised.” That's the same standard I hold myself to today.
These days I work a focused radius — roughly 10 miles across North Bethesda, Potomac, Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Rockville, Kensington, Silver Spring, and Gaithersburg — because staying close to a market I actually know well matters more to me than covering as much ground as possible.
When I first moved to Montgomery County, I lived across the street from Charlie Crown, a wonderful old farmer. He gave me eggs every week, we talked virtually every morning, and he let me and my chocolate lab have the run of his farm. Charlie passed away, but his farm — redeveloped as Downtown Crown — is now enjoyed by thousands of people each week.
My Family
My wife runs a small, skin-focused spa in North Bethesda (Little Oasis Spa), in a commercial space we bought and redesigned in 2019. We have two kids and a Schnoodle.
Way Back In Ancient Times…
I was a competitive athlete — including a field goal kicker in college. Right before graduation, I was asked by 1988 Olympic gold medalist boxer Andrew Maynard to train him (strength and conditioning), and shortly thereafter to manage him. I assembled a management team, and within six months we secured a WBC Cruiserweight World Title in Paris, France.
